Name: Conan Butler |
Welcome aboard, Conan! We’re excited to see your fresh perspective shine in FEM and CFD simulations!
Hello, I’m Conan, a third-year student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering at Hogeschool Inholland Delft. I have a strong passion for solving challenging engineering problems. Two years ago, I delved into learning Finite Element Method (FEM) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and took courses out of sheer curiosity. The idea of being able to predict the future within certain margins truly fascinated me. During my tenure at the AQUILO Rocket Team as the Structural Department head, I gained practical experience in solving engineering problems. With this internship at Femto, I eagerly look forward to improving the theoretical side of tackling challenging engineering problems.
I first learned about Femto when I triumphed in a challenge at a career event. This reignited my passion and deepened my interest in enhancing my expertise in solving engineering problems using computer simulations. In addition to my excisting knowledge and experience in computer simulations, I was eager to sharpen my skills further. Consequently, I embarked on an internship at Femto. Over the next six months, I will be delving into a comprehensive thermal and CFD analysis of a tank heated by an external source. My primary focus will be analysing the phase change and pressure buildup inside the tank caused by the external heat. Additionally, I will conduct a comparative analysis between using a quicker yet less detailed simulation method (system simulations using Amesim) and a more detailed but time-consuming approach (CFD simulations using STAR-CCM+).

Great to have you with us, Tim! We’re looking forward to the innovative ideas you’ll bring to our simulations!
Hello reader, my name is Tim van Zanten, and I am at Femto Engineering for my internship assignment as part of my Automotive Engineering studies. This is because concentrated FEM knowledge is available here, and I have been looking to expand my knowledge in the field of FEM for a long time in various ways.
Regarding my assignment: I am currently focused on ensuring the structural integrity of an electric vehicle that is undergoing major body modifications by designing structural reinforcements.
During my time at Femto Engineering, I am very enthusiastic to experience the working methods of the company and the other FEM engineers. This look from inside the company will certainly prove to be a valuable experience!
