Spotlight on our CFD intern
Spotlight on our CFD intern
We love working with enthusiastic engineering students and give them the opportunity to work with our simulation specialists and tools. However, every year we have limited FEA and CFD internship positions available. This year we selected Yvet to join the team. Yvet is doing a really interesting CFD assignment with STAR-CCM+ for the TU Delft Solar Boat Team. Read more below!
Full name: Yvet Maathuis
First day at Femto: 3 February 2020
Title: CFD intern
I was very interested in CFD software and wanted to get more experience with it. When I tried to obtain a student license, I came across Siemens STAR-CCM+ software. I contacted Siemens, and by coincidence, the man I spoke with, brought me in contact with Tom Santegoeds (CEO of Femto Engineering). After a few talks, I was given the opportunity to do my graduation internship at Femto Engineering. I am currently in my fourth year at Hogeschool Inholland. I started my internship in February.
For the past few weeks, I have been practicing with the software. Once I know all the settings and processes, I will start with a project for TU Delft Solar Boat Team. For the project I will alter the hydrofoils geometry in numerous ways and study the effects on their efficiency. The software I will use for the simulations is STAR-CCM+. Once my project is done, I can tell you more about my experience with the software for this optimization study.
The working atmosphere is very good and relaxed. All the colleagues are very helpful and working at Femto Engineering is very fun. I feel very welcome.
I found out very early that my strength and interest was in technical subjects and I always have been very inquisitive in nature. When I was little, I used to play with Lego or repair the tires of my bike by myself. I always liked to make and create things. In school, the beta courses were my strong subjects. It was a no brainer for me to study something engineering related.
Thank you Yvet, for sharing your experiences at Femto Engineering. We can’t wait to see the results from your study with the TU Delft Solar Boat Team and to publish them on our website.
Do you need more information or want to discuss your project? Reach out to us anytime and we’ll happily answer your questions.
